“Okay, Maybe It Wasn’t Okay” - Booklet

A record of things I have seen, heard, and been told while growing up in Japan. Many of these experiences left subtle traces of confusion in my mind. Relocating to another country has given me opportunities to reassess my Japanese identity.

I included factual examples showing how men are also subjected to societal pressures and expectations, and how women sometimes discriminate against other women. These reflections come from my own experiences, where I found it difficult to justify only one side’s perspective. Okay, maybe it wasn’t okay is not one-sided; it acknowledges that right and wrong are not always straightforward.

Even though societal influences have shaped parts of who I am, this does not mean I must limit myself to simply rebelling against them. Accepting diversity and embracing individual well-being should be the focus, rather than engaging in negation or rejection
